THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology and the Inter-University Centre for Bioscience, Kannur University, is organising an International Conference on Advances in Biological Science (ICABS) from March 15 to 17, 2012 at Kannur.The ICABS would focus on recent advances in frontier areas of biological sciences and is expected to be a platform for academics, scientists, students, engineers and entrepreneurs from across the globe for active interaction and further collaboration.There would be a satellite symposium on the main theme, advances in structural biology, and four other technical sessions on different topics including industrial and environmental biotechnology, medical biotechnology, food and agricultural biotechnology and also cell and molecular biology. The scientific programme would include plenary lectures and around 40 invited lectures by eminent scientists from all over the world. Some of the confirmed speakers include Dr Manoj Krishnan from the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, Singapore; Dr Cristobal N Aguilar, Autonomous University of Coahuila, Mexico; Dr M Vijayan and Dr MRN Murthy from Indian Institute of Science; Dr Gustavo Viniegra from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico; Dr Alison Bennet, Dr Isabelle Colas, Dr Ankush Prashaar and Dr Glenn Bryan from the James Hutton Institute, Scotland; and Dr P N Sunilkumar, Kinki University, Japan among many others.In addition to this, the scientific programme would have five poster sessions and the best posters in all five sessions would be given awards.
