THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police had arrested an inter-state burglary gang that has been operating in the city. Christopher alias Selvaraj of Kollancode and his accomplices Leibert, Kannan and Kumar were arrested by the city police team from Tamil Nadu the other day. According to the police, Selvaraj was the kingpin of the gang and Leibert and Kannan were his trusted accomplices. The gang used to come to the city in the evenings and watch the first shows of movies. After that, they travel to particular areas in the city by bus and then scout the location. Later during the night, the gang enters the house by bending the crossbar of windows. The bedroom where the inmates of the house are sleeping will be locked from outside and then valuables are looted, City Police Commissioner T J Jose said. The police also claimed that the booty were sold to Kumar, of Nagercoil, who was also arrested by the police. With the arrest, almost 35 cases registered at various stations in the district have been solved. Selvaraj led a lavish life using the money he had amassed from theft. It is reported that he owns several plots and a luxurious building at Kollancode. Investigations into the robberies in the houses of retired town planning officer Kasthuri Rangan and retired assistant commissioner of police Rajendran on the night of May 6 led to their arrest. A team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Putta Vimaladitya, Cantonment Assistant Commissioner Haridas, city Special Branch Assistant Commissioner D Vijayan and Museum Circle Inspector Mohanan Nair investigated the case.
