HYDERABAD: Taking strong exception to mudslinging on Congress by YSR Congress leaders, Congress Legislature Party asserted on Tuesday that it was for Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy to prove that his father and late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had no role in his business activities. The basis for the ongoing CBI inquiry was a case relating to investments and IT returns of Jagati Publications owned by Jagan, they remarked.Ministers V Vasanth Kumar, N Raghuveera Reddy, M Venkata Ramana, M Maheedhar Reddy and KV Krishna Reddy, and MLCs P Sudhakar Reddy and R Padma Raju told media at CLP office that income tax department had expressed doubts over business transactions of Jagan’s company, and in its final order in December 2010 the department suspected ‘quid pro quo’ investments made by companies based in Kolkata and Mumbai and asked Jagan’s company to pay `122 cr towards tax. The department found business transactions of Jagan’s companies between 2004-09 to be different from normal transactions and in violation of rules.In reality, YSR was not a shareholder of any of the companies owned by his son and was in no way related to his son’s businesses. The late leader would have ordered a CBI probe himself if IT returns of Jagan had come to his notice. Instead of proving that YSR had no role in this, Jagan was resorting to mudslinging on Congress. “Late YSR’s image is tarnished because of Jagan.In our view Jagan acted the same way TDP leader N Chandrababu had done to escape investigation by approaching the court for a stay order.”They said that the members of YSR cabinet would welcome it if CBI wanted to question them and no minister would approach the court to get a stay order. Sudhakar Reddy, who is also AICC secretary, said Jagan had shown `9 lakh as income in his IT returns for 2003-04 and `77-crore in 2008-09. In spite of all these, Jagan was trying to escape from the case by playing up the “mother and father sentiment”, he remarked.
