New Delhi: Kannada actress Jayamala, who had revealed that she had entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple, on Friday spoke out on the temple controversy.
Jayamala said that she "had decided to tell the truth about what happened at the Sabarimala shrine. My silence has helped the people who were against me".
The actress alleged that confidential faxes sent to the Travancore Devaswom Board was leaked to the press.
"I wrote a letter asking for forgiveness on May 2006. Unni Krishnan of the shrine helped me. But later on he said he did not know me," Jayamala said.
Jayamala claimed to be fighting for the rights of women.
"I have a few documents - some of them faxes which I am presenting to you. They establish without doubt that I had gone to the Sabarimala shrine," Jayamala said.
Jayamala had claimed to have entered the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and touched the feet of the idol of Lord Ayyappa 19 years ago.
Her claims were made in a letter to the chief astrologer of the temple.
Jayamala claims she was "pushed" into the sanctum sanctorum by the crowd and she caught hold of the idol's feet to steady herself.
