New Delhi: Vivek Oberoi, who made a roaring debut in Bollywood with his gangster act in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Company', is back in the shoes of a goon in his recently released film 'Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story'. But his new film neither has great performances not a good story.
While Chandu in 'Company' was all about grit and machismo, Jayantabhai is a small time 'bhai' with a heart of gold brought down not by bullets, but a sloppy love story.
Jayanta (Vivek Oberoi) falls in love with a simple girl Simran (Neha Sharma) who comes to live in his neighbourhood. Simran, who has a strict father, shifts to Mumbai in pursuit of a career but loses her job and is forced to move to a rented apartment. In his attempt to help her find a new job, the two unknowingly fall in love.
Oberoi perfects the 'tapori' language but the usual story of a small time thug who wants to take on his 'bhai' is beaten to death and nothing in the film surprises you. From the tested to death 'hate at first sight that eventually turns to love' formula, the story becomes predictable as the film progresses.
In the backdrop there are a few 'bhaigiri' moments that will bore you to death. Sample the dialogue - 'Tu mera right hand hai' and 'jaa, usey udaa kar aa'.
Though, there is no denying that Oberoi is the only saving grace of the film, but the weak story line and poor characterisation makes it a dull dish. Oberoi tries his best to recreate the magic of Chandu on screen but does not get anywhere. On the other hand, actress Neha Sharma only adds glamour to the film.
The story dwells on cliches and the narrative falls flat. The first half of the film, however, provides some comic relief with witty dialogue but the weak screenplay is unable to grip the audiences.
Oberoi, who has returned to silver screen after a long time, is still unable to find a credible comeback. Where is the promising actor of 'Saathiya'? In his desperate attempt to get back, it seems he is signing every project that is coming his way and 'Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story' is a perfect example of it. Watch 'Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story' at your own risk.
