Paris: Jeev Milkha Singh shot a three-under 67 to be placed tied sixth at the end of the first round of the Alstom Open de France at the Le National Golf Club.
It was, however a disappointing day for the other two Indians, Shiv Kapur (two-over 73 in tied 70th) and SSP Chowrasia (six-over 77 at 133rd).
Jeev, looking for his breakthrough result this season, started on the tenth and bogeyed the 12th, then had three birdies on 13th, 14th and 16th, before a second bogey on 18th that saw him turn in one-under.
On the second nine, he birdied the third and ninth for a day's card of 67.
Kapur, had just one birdie on third and four other bogeys, while Chowrasia, opened with a birdie and then lapsed into errors. A bogey on 14th and then a quadruple on 18th saw him turn in four-over. Despite a birdie on third, another double bogey on second and a bogey on seventh meant he was virtually out of the tournament at six-over.
Meanwhile, Richard Green and Graeme Storm ended day one at the top of the leaderboard after a late stumble from South African George Coetzee.
Green and Storm each compiled impressive six-under 65s but looked set to be overhauled when Coetzee, who finished third at last week's BMW International Open, reached seven under with four holes remaining.
However, Coetzee, 24, found the water at the difficult par four 15th and, after making bogey there, dropped another shot at 17 to drop back into a tie for third with Thorbjorn Olesen and James Morrison, both of whom shot 66 each.
