Jindal-Sharif Meet Fuels Speculation of Track II Efforts on Indo-Pak Relations
Indian steel magnate Sajjan Jindal has met Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a visit to Islamabad, triggering speculation in Pakistani media over revival of bilateral talks amid strains in ties.

New Delhi: Business tycoon Sajjan Jindal’s meeting with Nawaz Sharif at the hill resort town of Murree on Thursday has fueled speculation of a probable meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan, Dawn reported.

Pakistani media reported that the visit by the steel magnate, who is known to be close to both the premiers, has led to speculations of it being an attempt to refurbish ties between both the nations.

Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif confirmed the meeting, but added that there was no reason for any speculation.

“Mr. Jindal is an old friend of the Prime Minister. Nothing ‘secret’ about the meeting and should not be blown out of proportion,” she tweeted.

Media reports said Jindal and his delegation were received by Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz’s son-in-law, Raheel Munir at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

Meanwhile, the ‘secret’ meeting angered some opposition politicians in Pakistan, where many claimed that there was no way Jindal could land in Murree without prior knowledge of the country’s intelligence services.

According to the aforementioned report, opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly. The resolution expressed concern over the meeting, considering the timing of the meeting in the wake of the “problems” in Kashmir and death sentence given to Kulbhushan Jadhav.
