CHENNAI: From representing the harvest season to being a reason for organising get togethers, the cake-mixing ceremony has been successfully marking the onset of Christmas season every year in the city.Being the first star hotel in the city to ring in the Christmas spirit, Hotel Rain Tree, Anna Salai, hosted a cake mixing event on Friday.As the cake-mixing ritual has acquired a social face, it continues to be one of the most-awaited events in the city these days. Guests, mostly expats at hotel Rain Tree, had a ball, getting their hands dirty and mixing the fruits and nuts in wine and liquor. The event began with the ritual of mixing, which is formally called the cake mixing ceremony. It is believed that this ceremony is supposed to bring happiness in our lives. Bottles of wine, rum and whisky were poured into the mix while a number of people waited to knead the delicious mixture. The ingredients used for the festive fruit cakes included black currants, sultanas, kismis, figs, dates, candied peel and cashew nuts that will remain soaked till Christmas for a better and tastier result.The executive chef along with other hotel staff also participated in the ceremony.
