J&K: PM Modi to flag off train to Katra, an engineering marvel
The 25 km stretch from Udhapmur to Katra has cost Rs 950 crore which passes through 53 bridges including seven major and 29 minor bridges.

Srinagar: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first train from the holy town of Katra on Friday. The train to Katra near Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, is part of 292 kilometer Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line that would eventually connect Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The 25 km stretch from Udhapmur to Katra has cost Rs 950 crore. It passes through 53 bridges including seven major and 29 minor bridges. The tallest bridge is 85 meters high.

The rail link crosses number of rivers, nallahs, canals, channels, khads and watercourses in addition to number of roads, cart paths and footpaths. The train to Katra will pass through 10 tunnels having a total length of 10.9 kilometres.

The tunnel number 23 is the longest on the section having a length of 3.120 km. This Railway line is considered an engineering marvel. The shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is visted nearly 10 million devotees every year.
