Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours of Thursday. The gunbattle in still underway.
"Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in the wee hours today. The operation is still underway," a senior Army official said.
Two weapons have been recovered from the terrorists.
The encounter broke out after the troops of 62 Rashtriya Rifles launched a search operation in the area, an army official said.
The official said the attackers were identified as Naseer Ahmad Pandit and Inamul Haq alias Waseem Malla, both wanted terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Pandit had joined ranks after deserting police force in 2015. He was posted on security duty at the residence of PDP MLA and then works minister Altaf Bukhari at the time of quitting the force.
