BANGALORE: The World No Tobacco Day is observed globally in the last week of May, every year. Solemnised by all the member states of the WHO (World Health Organisation), it encourages tobacco addicts to abstain from all forms of tobacco consumption for 24 hours. This year, the Forum Value Mall, Whitefield, commemorated World No Tobacco Day with a special anti tobacco event — Rest in Peace.On May 28, around 70 people gathered together at the Forum Value Mall Atrium and ‘Dropped Dead’ at 1.30 pm. Holding up tombstone-shaped placards, enlightening the world to smoking-related diseases, these people ‘lay lifeless’ for five minutes, symbolising the countless deaths caused due to smoking. The campaign was aimed at battling tobacco consumption, which preys on approximately 5.5 million people every year.Forum Value Mall, Whitefield, this time, created the biggest conformation of human volunteers in the fight against the silent killer, advertising the 60 known fatal diseases in consequence to smoking, accounting for about 13,500 deaths globally, every day. An event that highlighted the ill-effects of tobacco, the RIP campaign hopes to create ripples, helping stub out the addiction and alerting the younger generation to stay away to make the world a better place to breathe in.
