New York: After having successfully managed to get sexual assault charges dropped against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, lawyers for the former IMF chief are now seeking additional time to prepare for his defence in a civil lawsuit filed against him by his accuser hotel maid.
The lawyers filed a motion titled 'Extend Time' submitted on August 29 requesting for more time to prepare his defence.
Judge Douglas McKeon, who is handling the case, has said he would issue an order on the motion next week.
Nafissatou Diallo's attorneys have not yet responded to the motion.
After a three month legal battle, Strauss-Kahn walked a free man when a federal judge ordered that sexual assault charges against him be dropped.
Prosecutors said they could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that the May 14 sexual encounter between Strauss-kahn and Diallo was forced and non-consensual.
Prosecutors said they could not trust Diallo's version of the encounter as she had given inconsistent information about the assault.
Diallo's lawyer had filed a separate civil suit against Strauss-Kahn, seeking unspecified damages for the "sadistic" attack.
Strauss-Kahn returned to France on September 4.
