Mumbai: Kalyug, the latest movie from the Bhatt stable, takes a hard look at the new age culture of technology intruding into personal spaces. The many MMS scandals that have made headlines in the recent past has been quickly turned into a script for this small budget venture.
Earlier titled Blue Film, the makers later wisely opted for a more tame Kalyug to keep any controversy at bay. The film is inspired by a real life incident and attempts to explore the human side of intrusion of privacy and expose the underground business of porn - something never seen before on the Indian big screen.
Talking about the inspiration behind his film, Mohit Suri, director, says:
"I admit that I was inspired by the DPS student MMS scandal.(In 2004, a Delhi school boy recorded footage of his girlfriend, also a student, having sex with him on his cellphone and distributed the footage around. The case, popularly known as the DPS MMS scandal, gained wide publicity and noteriety which ultimately led to the girl having to flee the country.) But its not her story; it's fictionalised. Ive just taken the concept taken from there."
Deepal Shaw, the model of Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar fame makes history of sorts with her debut as a porn star in this film.
Says Deepal Shaw on her role thats definately a first for an actress on the Hindi film scene: "My role in this film is to portray a woman who could be any woman who works in pornography. Like any other business, pornography is also just a trade."
We all know Emran Hashmi loves his bad boy image. But playing a porn shop owner probably takes the cake. Like it or not. for Emraan being bad is good.
Opening at theatres this Friday, Kalyug is already grabbing attention for it's catchy soundtrack and its controversial content may just generate some more heat.
