BANGALORE: People can soon buy Kannada books at just the click of a button. There is a new virtual store in town. Guruprasad, owner of Aakruti Pustaka, a publication house in Rajajinagar, has launched a new website called www.akrutibooks.com. The website is an online store for Kannada books. The website offers more than 1,500 books at present, spanning many genres, including humour, biography, science, fiction and more.Guruprasad says, “I started this venture out of passion. I like to help the Kannada book lovers all over India by providing them with easy access to books at low cost. Many of the districts in Karnataka have very few book stores. In order to reach out to everyone I have started this online store.”The website is a unique venture for Kannada books, with easy user interface which is in Kannada. The users can browse, search and buy books at low costs. Along with providing the facility to buy the latest releases and existing books, the website also offers a collection of rare and used books which are out of distribution. “We will sell rare books on request. I am in touch with Kannada publication houses and have access to such books,”ays Guruprasad. The store supports payment only through credit or debit cards. The user will instantly receive an e-mail about the confirmation of the purchase, after which the store will ship the books to the doorstep within three days. The website also provides the facility for the user to ship the books to any place in India. The website will be fully functional after September 4 and will be updated regularly.The website will be inaugurated on September 4 by renowned Kannada writer Shri Chandrashekhara Kambara at Nayana, Kannada Bhavana. This will be followed by the launch of three books — Janaranya, a novel translated by Geetha Vijayakumar (Original Bengali, by Mani Shankar Mukherji,) oDalALada taLamaLa, a collection of short stories by Keshava Kudla and Marada Marmara, a children’s play by Narayana Kangila. The inauguration will witness the presence of D K Chowta (playwright), Chandrashekhara Kambara (writer), Shi Maralayya (writer) and Prema Bhat (short story writer).
