KOCHI: Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musaliyar has said that religious and community leaders should stay away from political activities. He was speaking at a press conference organised as part of his Kerala Yathra in Kochi on Tuesday. Answering media persons, Musaliyar said that Muslim League does not represent Muslim religion. “There are Muslims in every political party. We cannot say that Muslim League is the party to represent people who follow the Muslim religion,” he said.He added that Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal is more the leader of a political party than a spiritual leader. “He is the president of Muslim League and for some he is a spiritual leader,” Kanthapuram opined.Commenting on the current political scenario, Kanthapuram said that peace and religious harmony in the state will be affected if religious and community leaders get more involved in political activities. He said that in public issues, the religious leaders should be more patient and stand in favour of the general public. According to Kanthapuram, financial inequality is high in the state and this inequality is a key factor behind the internal issues of the state. The extremist and terrorist groups take advantage of this issue and lure many to join them. Even as government promise various welfare projects, all are not implemented. He pointed out that corruption is another major problem for under-development of the country. The government and political parties should come forward with action against corrupt people, he said.He condemned the new education policy of the state government, “When a new government comes to power, they make drastic changes in the educational structure. Students have to suffer from regular change of syllabus. The educational policy should be focused on enhancing the educational sector ,” he said and added that when the Kerala Yatra ends at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, he would write a letter to the ministers citing problems faced by people in the state.
