BANGALORE: Coming out strongly in support of the Christian community in the state, Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj on Thursday said that Karnataka is the safest place for the community to settle.He was speaking at the valedictory of the 28th Quadrennial Assembly organised by the National Council of Churches in India.Praising the community for its unrelenting work in the field of education, Bhardwaj stated, “Due to the dedicated efforts of the Church, weaker sections of the society were able to get education.The Christian community has assimilated the culture of Karnataka and has also spread it through their efforts,” he said.Stressing on the spirit of religious freedom and coexistence, the Governor condemned recent attacks on the community and said that the name of the state in international circles would be spoilt if religious freedom was not guaranteed.“Karnataka is the safest place for you people.As the head of the state, I have all the resources at my disposal to assure you that no institution will be harmed,” Bhardwaj said.The assembly was held to discuss the theme ‘Gospel in a Groaning World’.The keynote address was delivered by Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, a worldwide assimilation of 399 churches.
