HYDERABAD: Hours after nearly 80 legislators from Telangana resigned, including 41 Congress MLAs, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, speaking on behalf of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), gave a call for a 48-hour bandh in the Telangana region on Tuesday and Wednesday. He added that they will further intensify the agitation for a separate state after the two-day bandh.Chandrasekhar Rao, after the JAC meeting which was chaired by Prof M Kodandaram, said the movement for a separate state will continue with redoubled vigour. “I was pained to note that there was no response from the Centre even after about 100 MLAs resigned on Monday. Union home minister P Chidambaram too did not appear serious about the concerns of the people of the region,” he said.Rao announced an agitation programme till July 10 and said the TJAC would meet again to chalk out the future plan of action. “We want the centre to immediately start working on preparing a bill after announcing a clear and definite roadmap for creation of a separate state,” he said. Significantly, Rao did not mention the resignations of the 33 TDP MLAs. Neither did he commend them for their action nor did he make any appeal to them to support the bandh call, indicating that the TRS considered the TDP its political adversary.According to him, students would take out rallies on July 7 in all the districts. There will be a rail roko programme on July 8 and 9. “We want the connection between South India and North India severed on the two days. This is one way of telling the centre how much the people of Telangana desire a separate state,” he said. On July 10, there would be ‘Vanta varpu’ in Telangana excluding Hyderabad where people would cook food on the roads.Rao said Telangana employees, teachers, workers and gazetted officers are planning to go on general strike. On July 6, they would announce the details.Earlier, after visiting fasting rebel TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy, the TRS chief said for the first time all political parties have joined hands to increase pressure for a Telangana state.
