Bhopal: Twelve-year-old Shreyansh Barmate is suffering from a rare disease progeria and resembles an old man at a tender age. However, on Friday, in perhaps the biggest surprise of his life, he was appointed as the chairman of Madhya Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights for a day.

At a function on Friday, where Shreyansh was also present, MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that all the treatment expenses of Shreyansh, and kids like him, would be borne by the state government.

Shreyansh is suffering from the same disease as the character Auro from Pa, played by megastar Amitabh Bachchan. A progeria patient ages rapidly and even a kid could look like an old man.

A visibly delighted Shreyansh reached Samanvay Bhawan in a red beacon-mounted vehicle, where he was formally handed over the charge of Children’s Commission Chairman. Shreyansh then presided over the state level review meeting on child rights.

He wished to work for the especially-abled kids. An officer from the commission said that decisions taken by Shreyansh would be forwarded to the state government for implementation, with a special recommendation by the commission.

Commission chairman Raghvendra Sharma had met Shreyansh, a resident of Jabalpur recently. The kid told Sharma that he loved music and the latter gifted him a harmonium.

When Sharma casually asked Shreyansh what he would like to be in future, Shreyansh replied that he wanted to be the chairman of Children’s Commission. Sharma did not waste any time in handing over his chair for a day to Shreyansh.

“Shreyansh had shared his wish of chairing the commission and I decided to fulfil his wish,” said chairman Sharma.

Kid’s parents – Manisha and Arvind Barmate - told the media that they were blessed with twins – Shreyansh and Siddhant. Shreyansh suffers from this rare disease, his twin brother Siddhant is absolutely normal.

Despite his rare disease, Shreyansh was close to their heart, and was really special to them, they said.

For obvious reasons, after seeing Pa, Shreyansh became a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan and wishes to meet his favourite star someday.

Shreyansh, who croons in a melodious voice, told the media that he wishes that especially-abled kids are encouraged through the proper platform to showcase their skills.
