KOCHI: Thousands of fishermen from across the district joined hands on Saturday as part of the state-wide ‘human sea’ formation demanding protection for their life and property at sea. The fishermen administered oath at 12 different locations in the district.They demanded that the Indian waters may be denotified from the list of areas prone to pirate attacks, the safety and security of the fishermen may be ensured, movement of ships may be extended beyond 60 nautical miles. They also demanded that adequate compensation should be ensured to the kin of the fishermen killed on high seas. Persons from various social and political arenas also took pledge and expreseed their solidarity with the fishing community. CITU state president K N Ravindranath, former ministers S Sharma and Binoy Vishwam, A B Mathew, MLAs Dominic Presentation and Hibi Eden, former MP Sebastian Paul, writer M K Sanu and Kochi Bishop Joseph Kariyil also took part.
