Kolkata: A man was arrested for his involvement in the alleged gangrape of a 22-year-old woman in a posh south Kolkata area, police said on Saturday.
According to the complaint, the victim was gangraped by a group of youths in an under-construction site at the Golf Garden area under Jadavpur police station Friday.
She was later rescued but the youths managed to flee.
"Sharif Ali Mollah was arrested late on Friday in connection with the incident. He has been remanded to police custody till Aug 27," Deputy Commissioner (Eastern Suburban Division) Sujoy Chanda told IANS.
The woman was first admitted to the state-run MR Bangur Hospital and then shifted to the Calcutta National Medical College.
Her statement has been recorded and the clothes sent for forensic examination. The report of the medical test was awaited.
However, the relatives of the arrested youth claimed that the allegation against him was baseless.
