WARANGAL: Fearing attack by Kakatiya University students, many leaders of the TDP, Congress and CPM desisted from paying tributes to Prof Jayashankar, whose last rites were performed on Wednesday.All the same, minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, belonging to Warangal district, managed to pay tributes under heavy police security.Students chased away Warangal MP Sirisilla Rajaiah, MP G Vivek, minister Sankar Rao from Ekasila Park where Jayashankar’s body was placed for paying tributes.Police heightened security at the Park following information that minister Baswaraju Saraiah, belonging to the district, would reach the place to pay tributes late on Tuesday night.But police and his followers suggested that he should not visit the place as KU students were there at the Ekasila Park. With this, Saraiah, a close associate of Dr Jayashankar, did not venture near the park.TD leaders too did not go to the Park. Knowing that KU students were ready to attack him, TDP Telangana MLAs Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao paid floral tributes to Jayashankar’s portrait in his house at Ram Nagar.TD, Cong and CPM leaders tried to participate in the funeral procession taken out in Warangal city but police prevented them.Leaders of the three parties who were not holding important positions were allowed to take part in the procession.BJP and TRS leaders participated in the procession.
