KOCHI: The state government should give preference to the Latin Catholic community during appointments in the various boards and corporations, demanded the Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC) at its 19th general body meeting which was held in Kochi. The council also decided to initiate strong protests against the State Govt if it continued to neglect the community. The council also decided upon programmes to strengthen community organisations like Kerala Latin Catholic Association (KLCA), Kerala Latin Catholic Women’s Association (KLCWA), Christian Service Society (CSS) and Dalit Christians Mahajana Sabha (DCMS). KRLCC also demanded that the government should withdraw its decision to provide caste certificates to the Latin Catholic community under the 1947 basic criteria. The council also said that the community would come out in open protest if the govt continues this stance. As an initial step, a dharna will be staged in front of the Secretariat on February 1 involving KLCA, CSS and DCMS.
