Congress on Saturday asked its workers in Uttar Pradesh to lay stress on door-to-door campaign to reach out to the people ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a meet of party's youth and student wings, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Madhusudan Mistry said irrespective of who the candidate was party workers should visit every household for campaigning.
"If required even state-level leaders should have no reluctance in distributing pamphlets," he added.
Mistry, who is also in-charge of party affairs in UP, was addressing a "Netratva Vikas Sammelan (leadership development conference)" of Youth Congress and NSUI in Lucknow.
He also asked Congress leaders and workers to "shun their ego" and work hard for strengthening the organisation. "If the organisation is to be strengthened, there is a need to work wholeheartedly for the party shunning ego," he said.
The Congress general secretary laid stress on including youth workers in large number, and said "eight to ten thousand youths would have to be deployed to work at the booth level in each Lok Sabha constituency".
Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Nirmal Khatri in his address said a road map for the party's campaign programme "is being prepared and now there is a need to implement it". "You all need to go to the people with the party's messages and try to strengthen the organisation," Khatri said.
