Mumbai: Maharashtra will bid adieu to its favourite deity Ganesh at the end of the 11-day long festival on Wednesday on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi. In Mumbai thousands of people will takes Ganesh idols to Juhu and Girgaum Chowpatty beaches.
To deal with traffic jams, Mumbai Police has put up several diversions in the city to ensure there are no snarls.
Security has been tightened in the city as the police force is not taking any chances in the wake of terror alerts. Twenty-five thousand Mumbai Police personnel along with the RPF, CRPF, RAF and BSF troopers have been deployed as part of the massive security cover. Bomb disposal squads will also be present at many important places while CCTVs have been installed at all the places where devotees will immerse idols in water bodies.
The police suspect that after the arrest of Indian Mujahidden co-founder Yasin Bhatkal, terrorists may take advantage of the grown during Ganesh immersion. Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil stated that security had been tightened across the state. He added that 12 additional police battalions have been deployed.
