Newport: Nicolas Mahut of France has advanced to the final of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships by beating American Michael Russell 6-2, 6-2.
Mahut, a wild card entrant, needed just 63 minutes Sunday to beat Russell on a side court one day after their match was suspended by rain after the third point.
Two-time defending champ John Isner, the No. 2 seed, is playing No. 4 seed Lleyton Hewitt in a rematch of last year's final in the other semifinal on center court. That match was completely wiped out by rain Saturday.
Mahut's win could be the start of a long day for the 31-year old. He's scheduled to play a semifinal in doubles and a possible final.
