BERHAMPUR: Maoists have torched the battery rooms of five mobile towers in Sorada of Ganjam district. Late on Friday night the Maoists set afire two mobile towers in Gajalabadi and three in Ashurabandh under Sorada police station limits. Groups, of about 20 Red rebels each, attacked the mobile towers belonging to private cellular operators located in Maoist-hit Ganjam-Kandhamal-Gajapati border. They also damaged two houses that were being used for commercial purpose in the vicinity.  “No injuries or casualties were reported during the raids,” police said.  Police also found a hand-written poster in Gajalabadi. It stated that the rebels had damaged the mobile towers in protest against the killing of Kishenj by security forces in West Bengal. Since a damaged tower is close to the CRPF camp it is suspected that the aim of the Maoists was only to make their presence felt in the area. Senior police officers rushed to the spot to probe the incident.
