New Delhi: Mercurial Russian Marat Safin lived up to his reputation of being the Marathon Man after going through yet another five-setter to beat Dudi Sela of Israel in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday.
After winning the first set 6-3, Safin lost the next two sets. But in typical Safin fashion, the Russian came back to win the fourth set in a tie-breaker.
The last set was a true indicator of the 2005 Australian Open champions' stamina. Safin won the three-and-half hour match 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0.
Safin, who beat Benjamin Becker also in five sets in the first round has a stern test waiting for him in Round III when he takes on Andy Roddick.
