BHUBANESWAR: Ahead of the ‘Naba Kalebara’ of the Trinity in 2015, the Tourism Department has planned a series of initiatives for development of tourist infrastructure under the Mega Tourism Circuit in Puri.The department has decided to do away with the electrical poles along the Grand Road to ensure safety of people during the event which is expected to draw devotees in droves.Of around Rs 14 crore sanctioned for the Tourism Circuit, Rs 1 crore has been provided to the Cesu by OTDC __ the implementing agency __ for cabling of electric lines. Since the amount will not suffice, the Energy Department will provide more funds. There are also plans to install LED lights along the Grand Road and inside the Jagannath Temple replacing halogen lights.Informing this at a media conference here on Monday, senior divisional manager (building project) of OTDC J K Das said Rs 3 crore will be used for illumination of the Grand Road from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple.The Department has also decided to develop the Jagannath Ballabh Mutt. The OTDC will construct an interpretation centre in the Mutt where the Jagannath culture will be explained to the visitors through audio-visual projectors. A two-storey crafts complex will be set up at a cost of Rs 5 crore. “Pindis will also be constructed on the Mutt premises where 192 vendors would sell their merchandise. This is aimed at rehabilitating the vendors who are encroaching on the Grand Road,” said Das.This apart, ponds on the Mutt premises will be renovated. An amount of Rs 18 lakh has been sanctioned under the Mega Tourism Circuit for repair of beach promenade and beautification of walls on seafront.Meanwhile, the State Government has decided to request the railways to complete the doubling of rail tracks from Delanga to Puri.
