THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Labour Minister Shibu Baby John said that he had submitted a proposal to the Chief Minister to set up special courts to deal with the cases involving destruction of public property. He told a news conference here on Thursday that the proposal would be discussed by the Cabinet. Those who destruct public property go scot free owing to the loopholes in the existing laws, he said. Referring to the achievements of the Labour Department in the first 100 days of the UDF Government, he said that 90 percent of the projects announced had been completed. The draft of the labour policy had been forwarded to the trade union leaders and a meeting was convened to elicit their opinion. After considering their opinion the final policy would be  announced in one month, he said. The Minister said that from November 1 “nokkukooli” would be eradicated in Thiruvananthapuram district. So far 43 cases involving nokkukooli were solved with the intervention of the labour officers. He said that peace committees were set up in all districts to deal with lighting strikes. The committees, with District Collectors as chairmen, district labour officers as conveners and District Superintendents of Police and trade union representatives as members, will intervene in the issues causing lightning strikes and solve it.
