MK strikes chord with Tamil in poll talk

CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi took potshots on AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa while he struck Tamil chords to his credit, here on Friday night.Addressing the public meeting to seek the support for the party’s mayoral candidate M Subramanian, Karunanidhi said he was saddened because Jayalalithaa had been acting as if she had accrued to power only with the aim of destroying Tamil.Recalling the efforts of DMK to confer classical language status to Tamil, Karunanidhi said that he had been treasuring the letter written by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the efforts made by him in this regard.“Jayalalithaa can read that letter if she is not sure, by raiding my residence”, Karunanidhi said.“Semmozhi Poonga’s name board and memorial stone could be covered from the eyes of people now, but history cannot be buried and the generations which will come after a hundred years would remember both me, for declaring Tamil as classical language, and Jayalalithaa, for her efforts to hide things”, Karunanidhi observed.“If her aim was to demolish Anna Arivalayam, the party cadre will not keep their calm”, he warned and added “Tamils will ensure that their integrity was not tampered with”.
