New Delhi: To keep a tab on the prices of onions and potatoes, Mother Dairy outlets in the city will soon start selling them and the number of government outlets selling them will also go up, officials said on Monday.
At a high-level meeting with all heads of departments, Delhi's Principal Secretary (Finance) MM Kutty reviewed measures to control prices of essential commodities and directed the officials to increase the number of government outlets selling onions and potatoes at reasonable rates.
At present, 70 such outlets are operational in addition to 70 mobile vans which cover over 250 locations daily.
Pradipta Sahoo, business head of Safal outlets run by Mother Dairy, committed to sell onions and potatoes on "no profit, no loss" basis for three months at 380 of the company's outlets all over the city.
Kutty also directed the officials to step up efforts to sell the items at wholesale rates through fair price shops.
"More than 288 fair price shops have been identified for this purpose and more shops are being identified," said a statement by the Delhi government.
