BANGALORE: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started investigating the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP)multicrore bogus bill scam. The scam is related to civil works carried out in BBMP wards in Gandhinagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly constituencies. The State government had recently ordered the CID to probe the scam. When contacted, CID’s Additional Director General of Police P S Meena said some files related to the scam have been handed over to them for investigation. “We are studying those files. We are also collecting other files related to the scam,” Meena stated.Attempt to Save Guilty?Meanwhile, sources in BBMP said that there are at least 10,000 files related to the scam. “The CID will take another three months to procure those files and another couple of months to visit those places. BMTF was investigating the case and they were fast too. They have already booked a case against an engineer. Now, the CID will start from the beginning and the case will get delayed. This is an attempt to save the people behind the scam. It is unfortunate,” an official said. It can be recalled here that former BBMP Commissioner H Siddaiah had registered a complaint with the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) based on the report by Technical Vigilance Committee under Commissioner (TVCC) to investigate the scam. This move had attracted criticism from BBMP members and the political parties wanted a thorough probe into the scam by either CBI or CID. Finally, the State government ordered a CID probe into the scam.
