Relatives of a 38-year-old Indian man, who allegedly committed suicide in Oman, have demanded a probe into the incident as they refused to believe the sequence of events leading to his death.
Anil Kumar from Kerala was found dead in his accommodation after he had reportedly slit his throat with a knife on December 30. Prasad, one of Kumar's relatives, has approached the Indian Embassy requesting a probe into the incident, the Oman media reported.
"It is unbelievable to learn that Anil Kumar, my brother-in-law, had committed suicide by cutting his throat. I have heard about people committing suicide by cutting some vein. But is this possible? Therefore, I have requested the Indian Embassy to intervene and initiate a probe," said Prasad.
Prasad has submitted a plea to this effect at the Indian Embassy in Muscat on January 2. Prasad said his sister complained that Kumar was not attending her calls following which he went to his accommodation.
"There I learnt that he was found dead under mysterious conditions. He didn't have any reason to commit suicide. He was sending money regularly to his home," Prasad was quoted as saying. Kumar was working as a driller for the last five months in a company near Barka in Oman. One of Kumar's roommate was taken into custody by police for questioning but was later released.
