New Delhi: In yet another case of online sexual harassment, a senior officer at the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is facing action for allegedly sending inappropriate messages to a female environmentalist on LinkedIn.

In his message on LinkedIn, the officer asked about the woman's experience in the field of rural development and women empowerment but then the message took a bizzare turn when he remarked about her looks. He also enquired about her marital status and religion.

The environmentalist took to social media to post screenshots of the messages. She later received an apology from the officer and an email from NABARD Chairman Harsh Kumar Bhanwala assuring action. An internal probe has been initiated in the case.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, the woman said, "It was a cheap message sent to me and it would be called an act that outrages the modesty of a woman. He called me hot and sexy and asked me if I was married. Someone from my friends group sent this to NABARD after that I got an apology from him from his personal ID, not official ID."

However, the General Manager at Human Resource, KR Nair promised to take strict action against the person. "We got the complaint on May 12 about the obscene message that was received by the lady. We have an internal procedure to handle such cases. Disciplinary action will be taken against the person by the branch office," he said.
