THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The national meeting of the National Fishworkers’ Forum (NFF) will be held in the capital from December 6 to 9. Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, office-bearers of National Fishworkers’ Forum and the Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation said that representatives from various states will attend the meet. The slogan of the meeting will be ‘Protection of sea, coasts, water bodies and fish wealth’, NFF secretary T Peter said. Mayor K Chandrika will inaugurate an exhibition on fishing sector and a photo exhibition. Councillors Tony Oliver and Bosco Disilva will attend the function. The viewers can taste tapioca and fish curry at the exhibition stall.The national meeting will be inaugurated by Speaker G Karthikeyan at the Hassan Marikar Hall on December 7 at 10 am. He will also release ‘Alakal’ a bimonthly on the fisheries sector. MLAs Dominic Presentation and V Sivankutty, NFF chairperson Mathani Saldana and general secretary R K Patil will speak. V Vivekanandan and Chandrika Sharma will present papers at the seminar on fisheries sector.Transport Minister V S Sivakumar will inaugurate the delegates’ meeting on December 8 at 9.30 am. A mass rally will be taken out from the Martyrs’ Square, Palayam, on December 9 at 4 pm. The rally will be followed by the valedictory meeting at the Gandhi Park at 6 pm. Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan, Latin Archbishop Dr M Soosapakiam, MLAs M A Wahid, V Sasi and Jameela Prakasam, NFF leaders Mathani Saldana, R K Patil, Fr Thomas Kocheri, Poornima Mehar, T K Rahman, M Elango, Pradeep Chatterjee, Vasudev Bolur, Narendra Patil, Paul Swami, Muhammed Ilyas, T Peter, K Alaya and P P John will address the function.
