Having always been interested in working with colours, arts and crafts, 20-year-old Nirupama Subramanian is excited about her debut solo painting exhibit. “The process of preparing for the exhibition was a great experience for me. I’m really excited about it,” gushes the young artist, the excitement more than evident.

With 19 paintings that includes one Tanjore painting, a nib and an oil painting, Nirupama has both abstract and landscapes on display. “The abstract pictures have no particular theme. They are about opportunities, the weaving of a fabric and still life,” explains Nirupama, who is currently pursuing  Chartered Accountancy.

Her landscapes are more reflective of her as an artist, she says. “They are about a girl’s enjoyment of nature. She starts her day at sunrise, takes a walk to a park. She stops to enjoy the lake, the mountains and trees,” says Nirupama, explaining that each scene is depicted by a painting, with the series ending with sunset.

Nirupama was part of the ‘Women Empowered’ programme organised by the Achalam Art Gallery.

Nirupama’s works are on display at the Achalam Art Gallery till August 3. For details, call 42127682.
