BANGALORE: NGO Janaagraha, in association with the Election Commission (EC) has finally built a working model of urban voter rolls management system based on Shantinagar Assembly constituency. In an effort to create a manual for Proper Urban Electoral Rolls (PURE), Janaagraha signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ECI in 2010. Now, at the end of the project, they have concluded a few important points, that were passed on to the Election Commissioner, at a workshop held in the city on Saturday.“We reviewed how urban electoral rolls management can be done in a systematic and sustainable manner. As part of the MoU, we took up one Assembly Constituency in Shantinagar and deployed a 20 member team. Then we mobilized and trained over 400 Area Voter Mitras (AVMs), who are residents of their polling parts in Shantinagar. We are trying to help the Commission to verify the accuracy of the rolls and to ensure that new names that needed to be included could be added to the rolls. There is a need to revise this list,” said Co-founder of Janaagraha Ramesh Ramanathan. Chairman Emeritus, Infosys, N R Narayana Murthy and Election Commissioner V S Sudarshan were present.
