The apex court stayed a May 24 interim order of the Madras High Court, which had restrained the CBSE from publishing the result of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2017.

In staying the Madras HC order, the Supreme Court had paved the way for the declaration of results of the exam taken by around 12 lakh students aspiring to join medical and dental colleges across the country.

The NEET 2017 result had been held up due to an order of the Madras High Court which on May 24 granted interim stay on the publication of NEET results on a batch of pleas alleging that a uniform question paper was not given in the examination and there was a vast difference between the ones in English and in Tamil.

The NEET examination for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses was held on May 7.
