Kathmandu (Nepal): Nepal is all set to finalise its interim Constitution on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala separately held discussions with CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and the President of Nepali Congress-Democratic, Sher Bahadur Deuba to speed up the process.

Koirala is scheduled to hold a meeting with the seven-party political alliance and the Maoists, who will finalise the draft interim constitution. CPN-Maoist chairman Prachanda and other top leaders will also be present.

The interim constitution, if finalised, would replace the one existing since 1990. The temporary course is a key step in the budding peace process between the two sides.

According to Transport Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the delegates will try settle issues that remained outstanding after days of meetings between government and rebel negotiators, including the status of King Gyanendra - who was forced to relinquish his rule in April by popular street protests and stripped of all his powers by Parliament.

Under the peace deal, an interim constitution is to be in place until next year's election for a special assembly to create a new constitution.

The assembly was also to determine the king's future, and to decide what kind of political system Nepal should have.

The government and rebels signed a peace accord last month that would see thousands of rebel fighters confined in UN-monitored camps and their weapons locked up.

The rebels began fighting in 1996 for a communist state. In April this year, they declared a cease-fire and began peace talks with the government.
