BHUBANESWAR: In another step towards realising the objectives of e-governance and effective scientific crime investigation, the State Government has initiated measures for a modern crime and criminal tracking network system in the State. With an aim to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of policing in the State, all 580 police stations, district police offices and the state police headquarters will be connected with nation-wide network through a specialised software. This was decided by the State-level apex committee headed by Chief Secretary Bijaya Kumar Patnaik. The project has been sanctioned by the Centre with a budget of ` 96 crore to be utilised within two years. On commissioning, the system will help in scientific investigation of crime, crime prevention, law and order maintenance, traffic management and emergency response.National Institute of Smart Governance, Hyderabad, has been selected as the State Project Management Consultant.
