BANGALORE: A special syndicate meeting of the Bangalore University approved the construction of the postgraduate centre in Kolar with immediate effect.However, the meeting decided to take a decision on the contractor to implement the project in the next meeting to be convened soon.The special meeting of the Syndicate was convened on Thursday to discuss the letter that was sent to the university by the Chief Engineer’s Office of the Public Works Department.In the letter, the Engineer had asked the university to take a decision on the construction of the post-graduate centre in Kolar.The previous meeting had decided to seek the Chief Engineer’s opinion before taking a decision on continuing the construction of the postgraduate centre in Kolar by the same contractor who stalled it.However, the differences of opinion in the Syndicate ensured that the decision was postponed even on Thursday.Distance education approvedEven as the Minister for Higher Education Dr V S Acharya informed about the decision to disallow universities from offering professional courses through distance education, on Thursday, a press release from the Bangalore University announced “After discussion on important issues such as ... offering BE/B.Tech courses under distance education mode, the Syndicate approved the Proceedings of the Academic Council”.
