Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose party JD(U) had voted in support of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's Food Bill in 2013, inaugurated the Food Security Scheme in Patna on Saturday.
Nitish Kumar had earlier assured that the groundwork for launching the scheme was underway and that his government would roll it out in the state in 2014. On being asked why his government had not enforced the Act, he had cited pending identification of beneficiaries, need for increase in PDS shops and constituting teams for monitoring and redressal of grievances as the reasons for the delay in it's implementation.
The Committee headed by Principal Secretary of Food department Shishir Sinha was given 4-6 months to finish the task.
