WARANGAL: Science and religion may not go together, but that has been the latest fad with Dan Brown bringing in the best sellers Da Vinci Code and its prequel Demon and Angels. Closer home, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here is organising a ‘Yagam’ (religious ritual) on Jan 28 (Saturday). The ritual is believed to be held as an atonement following some suicides on the campus.NIT Director, Prof T Srinivas Rao, however, says that “the ritual is his personal affair and the institute has nothing to do with the yaga.” Arrangements are in full swing at his residence.“It’s all in the family. My wife offers prayers during the holy month of Karthika. We have performed Satyanarayana vratam in our house and this yaga is no different. It is purely our domestic affair,” he contends. However, there are apprehensions of faulty vastu of the campus, which, some believe, may be responsible for the series of deaths after the Regional Engineering College (REC) was upgraded to National Institute of Technology (NIT) and new buildings including a 10-storeyed one had come up.Some of the incidents in the recent past include suicide by two students, Madhuri and Ankur Bharadwaj. On Dec 8, a student Rajsekhar drowned in a lake.
