No evidence of sedition against Kanhaiya Kumar, charge may be dropped: Sources
Delhi Police had claimed that they have proof against the JNUSU president and that no clean chit has been given to Kanhaiya Kumar.

New Delhi: Sedition charges against Jawaharlal Nehru University Student's Union (JNUSU) President Kanhaiya Kumar may be dropped. According to sources in the Home Ministry, there is no evidence so far to back sedition charges against Kanhaiya.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi had on Wednesday briefed the Prime Minister's office on the JNU case. Bassi said that no clean chit has been given to Kanhaiya Kumar. He claimed that they had proof against the JNUSU president.

"We have sufficient evidence against Kanhaiya based on which he has been arrested. We are investigating the matter and other people are commenting whether there are evidences or not, This is strange," said Bassi.

The Delhi Police chief added that they are in search of other leaders, asserting that the investigation is fair and without any bias. "The arrests have been valid and allegations being made against Delhi Police baseless," he said.

Kanhaiya Kumar has claimed that he was not part of the pro-Afzal Guru event that took place in the Jawaharlal Nehru University. Sources say that he claimed that the participants of the event that took place on February 9 were also not JNU students.

Kanhaiya has been arrested in a case of sedition and criminal conspiracy in connection with the alleged anti-national event inside the university premises and is in judicial custody till March 2, 2016.
