THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A two-day training programme on ‘Non-violent youth leadership & Shanti Sena’ would be held at Gandhi Bhavan from Tuesday. It will be jointly organised by Centre for Shanti Sena Training & Research, (Plavod, Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi (KGSN) and Indian Council for Gandhian Studies (New Delhi) as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of KGSN. The focus of the programme will be to help the participants examine the non-violent potential in each individual, to encourage the participants to familiarise themselves with strategies of non-violent conflict management, to examine some of the major non-violent campaigns of Gandhi, to examine the salient features of the Shanti Sena ideal of Gandhi, to analyse the global non-violent awakening since Gandhi and to meet and exchange ideas with some of the leading experts of major non-violent campaigns in different parts of India. The chief resource person of the two-day programme will be Gandhian scholar Prof Radhakrishnan. The faculty of the programme would include Prof William Baskaran, Prof S Narayana Swamy, T Ravichandran, S Mani, S Radhakrishnan, A R Patil of BIRDS, Belgaum, Mohandas (NSS Coordinator, Kerala University, Prof V Ramdas of KGSN, J M Rahim of Kerala University, Jacob Pulickan, Director Swadeshi and GCRD) Ajith Venniyur and R Perumal (Karakudi University). Narayan Desai, Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth and son of Gandhi’s secretary Mahadev Desai, will inaugurate the programme. There is no course fee. A statement from KGSN said that simple food and accommodation will be provided by the organisers while the travel costs will have to be met by the participants.
