BHUBANESWAR: The NTPC on Friday gave a firm commitment to the State Government to restore the second pond of stage-I by August.
The assurance was given by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NTPC Arup Roy Choudhury during his meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here. Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, the CMD said the pond will be ready by August as 40 per cent restoration work has already been completed.
Choudhury said the NTPC has readied a Long Term Action Plan for ash management of the 6x500 MW Talcher Super Thermal Power Station (TSTPS). "The southern states called us expressing their concern," he said adding, "The southern states have also approached the Union Ministry of Power and the Orissa Government for early solution to the problem."One of the ash ponds breached on June 3, 2011, and polluted vast farmlands and river water. Minister for Environment and Forests Debi Prasad Mishra said the action plan, submitted by the NTPC for ash disposal, will be studied by a technical committee. He said the closure notice will be lifted only after complete restoration of the ash pond.
