Lucknow: Selfie mania turned fatal after a middle aged man drowned at Tanda waterfall at Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
It was learnt that the man along with his friend went to the waterfall for a picnic. It was raining and after a while they decided to go for a selfie keeping the waterfall in the background.
Sources said, while taking their own photographs the duo were engrossed so much that they didn't notice that they crossed the warning mark and accidentally fell in to the waterfall.
The others who were also present at the time of the mishap alerted the local authorities and police.
"We pulled put out both the victims but one of them was declared dead at a nearby hospital. The condition of other person is critical," police source said.
The entire rescue operation took more than six hours.
This is the third selfie death in Mirzapur in the last couple of months.
