THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government will hold discussions with pharmaceutical companies on October 20 for regulating the price of essential medicines, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy informed the Assembly on Thursday. The government was committed to preventing pharma companies from exploiting the public.  An expert commitee of doctors will list essential medicines which should be made available at an affordable price in the state, he said.WALK-OUT The Opposition staged a walkout after Speaker G Karthikeyan refused permission for an adjournment motion on price rise. V S Sunil Kumar sought leave for the motion charging the government with inaction in checking rise in price of essential commodities and medicines. The government had put farmers to hardships by ignoring fertiliser subsidies, he said. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that there was only a nominal rise in the prices of essential commodities. The price of rice had gone up by only 50 paise, he said. But Deputy Opposition Leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the Chief Minister had contradicted a statement made by Food Minister T M Jacob in the House the other day that normal life was indeed affected owing to price rise.
