BANGALORE: The organic farming community under the banner of Association for Promotion of Organic Farming, Bangalore and Former Vice-Chancellor’s Association, Karnataka have organised a two day national conference on organic meat, poultry and fish, ‘Orgcon-2011’ starting from Saturday. Addressing the meet during the inauguration, Dr Suresh Honnappagol, Vice Chancellor, Karnataka Veterenary Animal and Fisheries University, Bidar said, “The conference is an eye opener for all of us to look into research for organic programme in meat, poultry and fishes.”“The food habits of people have changed. More and more people are now adopting organic food products. Meat and fishes would be healthier if produced organically,” said a member of the organising team.If farmers practice organic way of rearing sheep and goats, the milk yield will also be higher as the food grains and the fodder they are fed with will be grown organically as per the standards of National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP).More than 200 farmers representatives and resource people from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Haryana were present at the conference.There were 17 stalls from Belgaum, Tumkur and other districts demonstrating better sheep and goat rearing methods and cow milking techniques.
