ROURKELA: Businessman Surendra Jhunjhunwala (57), elder brother of the absconding Orind chairman Ravin Jhunjhunwala, was brought to Rourkela on transit remand following his arrest from Kolkata airport. He was produced in SDJM court, Panposh, on Sunday evening and remanded in 14-day judicial custody. Reports said a team of the Rourkela police arrested Surendra and his industrialist father Jugal Jhunjhunwala at the Kolkata airport on Friday night. The police team produced the duo in a Kolkata court on Saturday evening seeking transit remand. However, the octogenarian Jugal managed to get bail on medical grounds. Police brought Surendra to Rourkela by train on Sunday.  Police insisted on Surendra’s complicity in the affairs of the defunct refractory plant Orind, now Shaswat International Ltd.He has been booked under Sections 406, 409, 420, 304, 294, 506 and 34 of IPC for his alleged involvement in duping the employees of their legitimate dues, Rourkela SP Himanshu Lal said.  Agitating employees of Orind have accused the company management of duping them of their dues amounting to ` 24 crore which included outstanding salaries for 14 months besides financial benefits of retired and dead employees.
